Local cultural traditions of hospitality building materials and craftsmanship dictate the shape and palette for the heritage scheme. Al Seef Hotel is comprised of 200 rooms spread across 10 clusters each with its own small reception area. The 25 sqm rooms have three different design layouts with either king or twin beds and slightly varying lighting or electrical fixtures-as well as a range of design themes including traditional dark-light and fresh. The colour palette is derived primarily from the natural earthy tones of the local landscape-as well as indigenous building materials- crafts and dyes. The decor of the rooms is an exercise in tasteful minimalism- featuring traditional sadu fabrics-carved wooden doors and vintage photographs. Hand troweled plaster walls- concrete floors cast on-site and hand-carved coving details- along with traditional barasti and chandel ceilings echo the ancient building traditions of the region. All lighting fixture- ironmongery and bathroom fittings are in antiqued bronze in order to take advantage of the materials natural aging process.
